Even if you don’t know who Link Wray is, you’ve probably heard his music. He played a Gibson SG and was the pioneer of distorted rock guitar, influencing countless musicians. “Rumble” was used for the soundtrack for the movie “Pulp Fiction”. Litterally a four chord song, “Rumble” is a powerhouse of cranked-up sustaining major chords ringing out with full overdrive. All you’ll need to hear is the first three chords : D... D... There is very little info about this particular album.All i know is it was recorded in the UK and is very hard to find.It's been said it can be found at Ebay for about $4o, I had no luck seeing it there myself.I wish a good record label would re-issue all of Link's 70's & 80's material. I for one think it would be quit profitable.My fav tracks here are funky rocker "Bo Jack" and "Midnight Lover" which could have been a huge FM radio hit had someone actually been paying attention. The guitar solo's in "Midnight"will make many drool especially those of you who dig your 70's classic rock. Until then ...Rock On!

This is far and away the best sounding and most well-performed show (circulating) by the original lineup. IMO, these performances show the band at it's peak as a "hard-rock" act. Those only familiar with the relatively tame studio versions of these songs will be surprised/shocked at volume and intensity of these live-in-studio (with small crowd) performances. WARNING: This is not soul/jazz/pop music. This has no association whatsoever with anything by Steely Dan or Michael McDonald. This is pure hard guitar rock. IMO, this is easily the best bootleg ever made featuring the "REAL" line-up!

British jazz-rock band Mogul Thrash evolved from James Litherland's Brotherhood, which in addition to guitarist Litherland (an alumnus ofColosseum who formed the group in 1969) also featured guitarist/reedist Michael Rosen (previously of Eclection), drummer Bill Harrison and the so-called "Dundee Horns" -- saxophonists Roger Ball and Malcolm Duncan. With the addition of ex-Splinter singer/bassist John Wetton, the group rechristened itself Mogul Thrash, debuting in 1970 with the single "Sleeping in the Kitchen"; their self-titled RCA album appeared the following year, going largely unnoticed at home but finding favor throughout much of Europe. However, faced with legal problems with their management, Mogul Thrash was forced to disband shortly after the record's release; while Wetton went on to join Family and later King Crimson, Duncan and Ball soon reunited in Average White Band.

Mogul Thrash released just one album, the eponymous Mogul Thrash (1971). It was produced by Brian Auger, who also played piano on one of the tracks. Brian Auger's Oblivion Express featured Robbie McIntosh on drums, who would later become a founder-member of the Average White Band. When McIntosh died of a drug overdose in 1974, he would be substituted by another Oblivion Express drummer, Steve Ferrone.

While this album is listed as a Nick Gravenites album, Michael Bloomfield plays such an integral part, one is tempted to call it "Our Labors." Nick Gravenites is an underrated songwriter/singer and deserves accolades for his work on this and many other albums but the star that really shines,no,blazes, is Michael Bloomfield. His playing on the live cuts is some of the best blues guitar I've ever heard. That's no hyperbole,either. Mike Bloomfield had brains in his fingers and this CD proves it. This is Blues improvisation at its finest. By the way, "My Labors" was recorded in 1969. While some of the studio cuts sound a little dated, the live stuff sounds like it could have been recorded yesterday. Timeless. ( By John B. Ivey "Slothhand")

Who would thought the have made such a fine cover of "River Deep Mountain High". "Step inside love" is so fine romantic lyrical song, "No Resurrection" same and also "Heart full of Soul", "I believe to my Soul", so fine blues rock song and last song is such a big highlight. They should really deserve to be on the same train as Spirit or Linn County. (By Uros)

The follow-up to the first volume of THE UNRELEASED ERIC BURDON flips the ratio of that release by including six studio tracks--mostly alternate takes and extended versions of tracks previously released on Burdon's more recent solo albums--and only four live cuts. The highlights are a powerful, lengthy version of "House of the Rising Sun" recorded at the Whiskey A-Go-Go (or at least that's what Burdon says at one point; the liner notes don't divulge recording dates or locations) and a hypnotic, storming 14-minute live take on the John D. Loudermilk classic "Tobacco Road."
Subtitled "The Unreleased Eric Burdon, Volume 2," the performances on this disc date back to the early 1970s and extend up to the early '80s, a prime creative period for the singer. Kicking off with a solid minor-key treatment of Muddy Waters' title track, this disc features six studio and four live tracks that are seeing their first U.S. release, and two of the tracks (the unedited long version of "Tobacco Road" and "Yes, Indeed, Yeah") are previously unreleased items. Steamhammer - Live In Germany 1969-70 - Rare Tapes

The extraordinary blues-rock band Steamhammer was formed at the end of 1968 in Worthing. Martin Quittenton (g) and Kieran White (voc., g, harm.) came out of the British folk circuit. Quittenton had worked together with the Liverpool Scene and, like the other members Martin Pugh (g), Steve Davy (b) and Michael Rushton (dr), had played with numerous R&B groups.

Blues hero Freddie King ordered Steamhammer as his backing band on tour through Great Britain. Come Spring time, 1969, they signed a record contract with CBS. The first album, "Steamhammer", was a mixture of classic blues by B.B.King and Eddie Boyd and modern blues written by White and Quittenton with the help of Pugh. At the end of the British blues boom, only a few hardcore fans took interest on the finest lyrical blues-rock statement of the century.

Not selling as many records as they'd hoped to, Steamhammer nevertheless became a top European open-air attraction, mainly due to their brilliant live performance. For over two hours each night they would indulge in wide excursions in instrumental improvisations, embodied by the impressive guitar riffage of Martin Pugh and the sensitive harmonica of Kieran White. In the Summer of 1969, Quittenton left the band, followed by drummer Michael Rushton. They were replaced by Steve Jollife (sax, fl.) and Mick Bradley.

Jollife's feel for precise arrangements and jazz influences especially inspired the recording of Steamhammer's second, "Mk II", album. Overstepping the boundaries of traditional blues forms, they unleashed their own musical creativity and imagination without resorting to any technical trickery. These highly professional and creative musicians performed many live shows at various festivals in Scandinavia, West Germany and the Netherlands. On the continent, it turned out, they had become more popular than in England.

In the Summer of 1970, Steamhammer recorded their "definitive album" (rock session), called "Mountains", as a quartet. White, Pugh, Davy and Bradley were really working as a team and offering electrified white urban blues of highest quality. The live cut, "Riding On The L&N", is one of the highlights of the "Mountains" album, which contains straight-ahead blues numbers with a healthy dose of rock'n'roll. It was only with the release of this album that Steamhammer began to be noticed by the rock world. After the Altamont and Fehmarn fiascos, the era of open-air events of such calibre was ended at least for quite a while.
In the late Summer of that same year, Steamhammer toured for the last time in Germany and the Benelux. The following Autumn, the line-up changed again. Only Pugh and Bradley stayed together and engaged ex-Renaissance member Louis Cennamo (b) for the recording of one more album. "Speech" was recorded in the Winter of 1971 and released in the beginning of 1972. By that time, Steamhammer had ceased to exsist. "Speech" was a disappointing, partly chaotic album, and the negative reception of the record led to the end of the group's popularity. Mick Bradley died in February 1972 of leukemia. Kieran White released a solo LP, "Open Door", in 1975 and Martin Pugh and Louis Cennamo put together a cult band Armageddon (with Keith Relf on vocals), which released only one album.

Badger - White Lady - 1974 - Soul Funk Rock (Uk)

This is the least Yes-sounding album on this page, as Badger went full-tilt into soul. Parrish and Foster left the group, and were replaced by one-time Apple records artist Jackie Lomax (vocals, guitar), former Steeler's Wheel guitarist Paul Pilnick and bassist Kim Gardner. Lomax is White Lady's key figure; he not only writes all the songs, but has a fine smooth soul voice. Allen Toussaint recorded the album in New Orleans, and he gave the band the full contemporary R&B/soul sound - horns, backing singers, prominent rhythm section. Unlike One Live Badger or other English bands who explored American soul (Clapton or Traffic at times), Badger was far more interested in grooves than soloing (or even soloing over the grooves). Dyke and Gardner usually kickstart the tracks with a catchy rhythm ("Don't Pill the Trigger"), then Lomax swoons in, while everyone plays along. Pilnick sticks to rhythm , so they brought in Barry Bailey in on slide, with an appearance by Bryn Haworth as well. There are a few nods towards the Allman Brothers intertwined guitars (the ode-to-drugs title track with Jeff Beck playing lead, "Listen to Me"), but overall White Lady is really a group effort. Lomax is almost too low-key at points, and when he gets excited he has a tendency to get frog-voiced, but he is still the focal point. But this is about the grooves, and in conjunction with the excellent production they have plenty (the opening "A Dream of You" is great, "Be With You", "Lord Who Give Me Life"). Quite the guilty pleasure as such, but it failed to chart and the group broke up soon afterwards. Kaye subsequently joined Badfinger.

Fragile was an obscure band that played a heavy, twin guitar rock. They choose this name as a tribute to the band Yes, who had released an album by the same name. The music of Fragile is not unlike Cargo or Wishbone Ash. The band saw the light around 1972. They recorded an album in 1974 but it was not released until 1976. After the album was released their rehearsal location, including their equipment, was burnt down. This didn't make them stop performing, but eventually they did disband the band due to lack of income. In 2004 their album was released on cd.

Remastered reissue on CD of the one and only album by Dutch 70's psych/rural band consisting mainly of Mollucans who play guitar like crazy, as we know. On one side long track they expose a tapestry of excellent guitar fuzzing. One of the most wanted albums from Holland, and an absolute ultra rarity, originally made as a private pressing for friends, relatives, etc.(Freak Emporium)

The Outsiders - C.Q. - 1968 - Psychedelic Rock (Netherlands)

The first thing to say is that this is one of the greatest albums in the history of music. It should be required listening for everybody who likes rock. This album deserves to be much better known. It is a very psychedelic album, in fact it is one of the best psychedelic albums ever made. The combination of power, aggression and beauty is still quite stunning after more than thirty years.
Before buying the album I had never heard anything by the Outsiders but was attracted by their legendary cult status and my growing interest in Dutch psychedelic and progressive music of the sixties and seventies. There are many great bands from the Netherlands who are far too little known internationally.
The Outsiders had a short career and this 1968 album was their last. You can almost understand why this was the band's last album. There is a peaking of power and feeling here, which would be next to impossible to repeat. Every track is a masterpiece.
I bought the album a few weeks ago at Fame in Amsterdam and have been listening to it continuously ever since. If you like psychedelia I would be very surprised if you did not like this album. This is not flower power psychedelia and nor is there anything whimsical about this music, that is very hard edged. It is difficult to compare to other bands but the Pretty Things would possibly be the most similar music or the era.

The outsiders should have been huge internationally. The combination of energy and aggression foreshadows punk. It is not everyone's cup of tea. It's probably one of those love or hate albums. If you like psychedelia but you also love the power of the MC5 and Teenage Head era Flamin Groovies I think you will like this album very much. The musicians are superb. Ronnie splinter should be a world renowned name for the things he was doing with the guitar in 1968. Wally Tax, who wrote the lyrics, is one of the best singers I have heard. The drummer and bass player are both very powerful.
This album should have the same legendary status as 'After Bathing at Baxters', 'Electric Ladyland' and other world renowned classics from 1968.

Another comparison I would make is with Love's 'Forever Changes'. Both albums inhabit a unique and idiosyncratic world of genius. Indeed more than inhabiting, they shape their own particular worlds. To me the world of CQ is a much darker world then Arthur lee's.

There isn't a weak song on the album. Particular highlights for me are 'Zsarrahh', 'Happyville', 'Man on a dune', 'the Bear' and 'Doctor'. The guitar of Ronnie Splinter on the latter track is awesomely powerful and innovative. The last song 'Prison song' is possibly the darkest end to an
album I know and an amazing psychodrama in itself. As soon as I had heard this album for the first time I had to play it all again straight away. I have heard thousand of albums and this is one of the few that has compelled an immediate replay.

The 2001 reissue is a piece of art in itself. Pseudonym have obviously put great effort into the packaging and sleeve notes and you will get great pleasure from this, if you choose to buy the disc. Pseudonym are my favourite reissue label, having done an equally beautiful job with the
reissue of Group 1850s Agemo's Trip to mother earth a few years ago.
Buy this album as soon as you can. You will not regret it.

Great show as always by our hero and his traveling companions. Similar setlist to the excellent shows posted by analog4011 and fubb (thanks again guys), but hi, NO Hellbound Train OR Tell Mama and YES Louisiana Blues## and Jack The Toad@@!! Skipping Tell Mama, brave move, but nobody seemed to mind. Kim came out of the gates all over the stage and cranking out the power chords. He even clammed it up once or twice amidst his enthusiasm (and joked about it later). Kim caught fire during the solo in Looking In and stayed hot the rest of the night. She Got The Heat is normally a slide workout, but he couldn't find the slide (and didn't feel like looking for it) so he played it "Chuck Berry style." Joe Whiting's sax playing is a real good addition. He doesn't play much, but when he does it enhances rather than getting in the way. Check out the way he ups the ante on I'm Tired after Kim's amazing acoustic guitar solo. Anyway, yeah, great band line-up, the new album (Oct. 11 he says) is gonna be amazing - can't wait. All the new songs killed me. I was several tables back - hard to judge distance. There was a bit of chatter, but nothing close - this recording came out well, there is pleasure to be gained from listening to it (By Realomind).

"Parlour Band's only LP is progressive rock-tinged mainstream early-'70s British album-oriented rock, competent but no more than that. Both keyboard and guitar parts take a strong role, and there's a bit of the multiple tempo changes and classical-tinged organ burble of bands like Yes in songs like 'Forgotten Dreams.' Some other songs steer well clear of art rock, though, 'Pretty Haired Girl' coming across like prototypical early-'70s mellow California harmony rock. Even when it doesn't sound as Californian, though, the album's a pretty laid-back affair and, though it's agreeable, it's lacking in both power and first-rate songs. 'Little Goldie' sounds a good deal like the early-'70s work of Todd Rundgren in its bouncy pop optimism and relatively sophisticated keyboard-based arrangement, though it's not typical of the record. A bit, though no more than a crumb, of art rock pretension creeps into the final cut, the three-part, seven-minute mini-opus 'Home.'"

Day Of Awakening, Mamma Said - drums by Cliff Davies and sax, flute by Dick Morrissey: both are mentioned on the sleeve as 'friends of Geoff': they were under contract with Gull Records (1974) to record the If album Not Just Another Bunch Of Pretty Faces (which includes Geoff). Geoff made this album just before joining If.
Makin' It Funky, UFO, Fall Out - backing vocals by producer Tony Atkins and Gerry Morris. Recorded and mixed at Marquee Studios, London.The sleeve is a story in itself: quite shocking for the seventies as it's a drawn picture of an old man with a German war cross around his neck putting his teeth into the bare boobs of a huge well-shaped lady. In front of those, two smoking ladies plus a smoking ape (!), but all five have head phones on ... on the back, a picture of Geoff in a smoke cloud (was this album sponsored by some cigarette company?).
Compared to his albums of the nineties, 'Whitehorn' is less interesting for Procol fans as his vocals are more to the fore than his - this time funky - guitar-playing, though on Fire Fire Geoff really shines. Day of Awakening could be an If outtake, Mamma Said has some nice interplay between Geoff's guitar and Morrissey's sax and My Mind Within is a slow ballad where Geoff stretches out the notes like only he can.

Morgen - Morgen - 1969

From New York, this short lived band evolved around the namesake guitarist Steve Morgen.
A foreboding bass riff and staccato drumming introduce ‘Welcome To The Void’, and for the next thirty-eight minutes one is hurled headlong into a vortex of dual-guitar overload, lyrically woven with romantic and Victorian imagery residing on a tab of microdot.
There are some cool passages here, like the sudden rush of Jimi Hendrix/the Who-hybrid notes in “Love” as a jungle beat throbs in the background, and the lasciviously fey vocal and sweetly fuzzy guitar sustains in “Of Dreams.” “Eternity in Between” does make it clear Morgen was a big Who fan, with its lifts of the chord sequence from “Underture” and the stuttering distortion of “My Generation”.

ROCKETS HISTORY.... The Rockets were formed in 1972 by former Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels members Johnny "Bee" Bandajek and Jim McCarty. Vocals and drums were handled by Bandajek, McCarty was on lead guitar, John Fraga was on bass and Marc Marcano was on keyboards. Johnny Bee was the driving force and primary songwriter for the Rockets. In the early days, The Rockets paid their dues playing gigs at venues such as, The Rainbow Room and The Peoples Ballroom in Detroit, and The Rock 'N Roll Farm in Wayne Michigan.
The band took on a new sound in 1976 when David Gilbert was brought in to take over vocals from Johnny Bee. Gilbert had fronted several garage bands and had a brief stint singing for Ted Nugent and The Amboy Dukes in 1971. His drinking and drug habits didn't set too well with the Motor City Madman. Gilbert's raw vocal power proved to be just the ticket to complete the Rockets sound. However, as Nugent had before them, Bandajek and McCarty quickly realized Gilbert would be trouble for the band with his frequent drug and booze binges. The friction between them would go on for seven years before it eventually tore the band apart.

Five studio albums produced several minor hits including a rocking rendition of Fleetwood Mac's "Oh Well". Always a popular group in Detroit, and Michigan, The Rockets had gotten some attention outside of the state, but never really got the big break to become a true national act. The first album, Love Transfusion, was released in 1977. It failed to produce any hits. The 1979 self-titled release featured the hits, "Oh Well" and "Turn Up The Radio". This record also featured on bass, David Hood, one of the "Swampers" from the famous Muscle Shoals Sound Studios in Alabama. Muscle Shoals was mentioned in Lynyrd Skynyrd's southern rock anthem "Sweet Home Alabama". Also, this Rockets album was dedicated to Skynyrd members Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines and Cassie Gaines, who all perished in Skynyrds infamous 1977 plane crash. The third attempt came in 1980 with "No Ballads", "Desire" was a popular tune from this album. Next came the "Back Talk" album in '81 and then finally "Rocket Roll" in 1982. "Rollin' By The Record Machine" from this release was the last hit for the band. The final release, "Live Rockets" was recorded on New Years Eve 1982 at the Royal Oak Music Theatre near Detroit

Short Cross - Arising - 1972

From Sandston, Virginia, this band evolved out of the Hustlers, whose members included, at various stages, ex-Reactors Steve Hicks and ex-Outlaws Butch Owens alongside core members Velpo Robertson, Gray McCalley and Ben Luck. The latter left to join the Barracudas, of A Plane View LP fame.
Their rare album can best be described as heavy psychedelic blues, at its purest on Suicide Blues. There's plenty of good guitar work throughout, Wastin' Time, Just Don't Care, Till We Reach The Sun and Hobo Love Song all have their share, whilst Ellen is a slow bluesy ballad. The album lacks sufficient originality to make it special but if this musical genre is where you're at you shouldn't be disappointed. (Max Waller / Roger Maglio)

Headstone - Still Loooking - 1974

The opening seven minute title track is a killer journey through local underground guitar psych, and there's plenty more good stuff aboard including some more lyrical moves. Underrated LP, solid all through, better than many $1000 LPs. Great generic sleeve of eagle "still looking". The band also had three non-LP 45s which are pretty good. [PL]
Ohio was full of obscure hard rock bands in the 70s, and it’s surprising how many of their self-released albums have stood the test of time. Despite relatively simple songs, this album has real power. The long title track is the highlight, but the rest of the album comes close to the standard. The songs carry on a bit too long, but the solid guitar/organ sound is backed up by an energetic rhythm section and the overall feel of this album is strong, and gets better with repeated listens. They don’t seem like they were particularly talented, but they made the most of what they had. (Acid Archives)

Billy T K has been wooing NZ audiences since the 60s with bands such as The Sinners, Human Instinct & Powerhouse.
1996 saw him on stage in Auckland playing with Carlos Santana. 2002 he was a headliner at WOMAD. These days he performs regular gigs around NZ with such artists as Billy T K Junior and Emma Paki.
2004 saw the release of his first CD of collected works spanning 30 years and includes Powerhouse tracks with Tony Littlejohn and Mahia Blackmore, studio tracks from the 80s & 90s and a track from movie about Indian mystics which Billy laid down some music for.
His music still reflects his early infliuences of Hendrix, Santana & McLaughlin and every time he plays the young people are gobsmacked and the oldies relive the past.

It's a nice disc. Kind of a looser version of Chicago. Less pretty vocals, but nice and lots of rock guitar licks and horns for a jazz/rock/blues fusion feel. This release is Keef Hartleys most Rock and Roll sounding as compared to the bluesey previous material. I feel that every song, including the bonus tracks is a keeper. Is it comparable to Magical Mystery Tour, No but its a fine peice of 1970 music that I'm pleased to own. Of all the Hartleys I own I must say this is overall the best.(Mark E. Hyken)

This group got together via word of mouth and an advert in Melody Maker. They made a demo for Decca, who then sanctioned this album, which is now a monster rarity. Given that it was recorded in the course of a single night, it's a surprisingly polished and varied collection of progessive blues and soul. Also the influence of jazz, funk and African music is evident. Acoustic guitars meet wild electric guitar solos with a bluesy vocalist. One of my all-time favourites!! (Record Collector)

Wicked Minds are an Italian band from Piacenza that started in 1987 as a trash metal band and only in 2000 (after keyboardist Paolo "Apollo" Negri joined with his Hammond) found a "new dimension", more hard-progressive oriented, releasing two very interesting studio works ("From The Purple Skies" in 2004 and "Witchflower" in 2006). This live album captures them performing live in July 2006 at Burg Herzberg Festival, in Germany, and features eight tracks oozing love for vintage seventies sounds.

The album is well recorded and all the members of the band display a great musicianship. Although the music draws heavily on classic hard rock (Uriah Heep and Deep Purple above all), Wicked Minds never play by rote and they always try to add something different to their sound, combining their "sources of inspiration" with their own tastes. The song-writing is definitively good and they succeed in avoiding plagiarism: the delicate ballad "Drifting" and the final "Shadows Train" in my opinion are outstanding songs that would perfectly fit the tastes of every hard rock fan, but all the album flows away without really weak moments. You can find here more than seventy minutes full of enthusiasm and energy... If you love bands like Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Wishbone Ash, give a try to this work: I'm sure that you won't be disappointed!

This record SHOULD have been huge, but alas that was not to be. With four members of 1969 Santana Band: Greg Rolie, Michael Shrieve, Jose "Chepito" Areas and Michael Carabello, Joined together with Santana's most famous 'Second' Guitarist and founding member (With Greg Rolie) of Journey, Neal Schon and later-day Santana bassist Alphonso Johnson. All the elements are here, with the powerful percussion force of Shrieve/Areas & Carabello and those smooth vocals and keyboards of Greg, the stellar guitar of Neal Schon, This CD is something special. The fact that only a few of us would hear this amazing music is quite a shame.

That said "Abraxas Pool" is a CD that BELONGS in any music collection. With the BIG drum sound of the opening number "Boom Ba Ya Ya" it is clear to all that this train has not lost any steam, to Describe the sound of these musicians is like describing being charged by a runaway elephant in some steamy jungle. The second tune: "A Million Miles Away" would have sounded real good on the radio. Also of note are the great tunes: "Going Home" and "Don't Give Up" that are as good as anything from The 1969 -1971 period that these musicians remember with great fondness. Mr. Neal Schon get's a showcase number on the wonderful: "Szabo" that has the pure emotion of the best of The Santana Band. But "Abraxas Pool" is not locked in the past, this music is new & fresh and the production is top-notch. Just one listen to the new version of "Jingo" will prove that to your ears.

Except for a short tour of the west coast and this stunning CD, Abraxas Pool is no more. Pick this up whilst it is still available.(By Philip S Wolf)

Pretty rockin' American psychedelic stuff from 1969. The guitar is very impressive especially on the tracks "Sailing" and "Hunter's Moon." After listening to the album a few times, it grows on you and just want to rock out! If there is such a thing as psychedelic metal, "Hunter's Moon" perfects and embodies it. There are a couple of average songs that flatten out the overall prestige of the album, but for the most part, it is a great slice of psychedelic hard rock from America. Give props to it's heaviness for 1969.

CROW had a truly unique sound which included aggressive musical interpretations combined with a distinctive blues rock sound. “Evil Woman Don’t Play Your Games With Me” charted nationally and hit the top ten of the national Billboard 500 during the winter of 1969. So diversely influential in the music world this release from the band was that Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath covered the hit on their very first release in 1970, an album which was not at the time released in the United States, but has since been released in the United States on the 2004 Black Sabbath Greatest Hits compilation CD. Also, Ike and Tina Turner covered “Evil Woman Don’t Play Your Games With Me” on their album “Come Together.”

During its original hay day of the 1960’s and 1970’s, CROW toured nationally and shared the bill with the likes of Janis Joplin, Iron Butterfly, Jefferson Starship, The Steve Miller Band, Eric Burdon and the Animals, and numerous others. Top honors for a top band. A total of four albums were released including “Crow Music”, “Crow By Crow”, “Mosaic”, and “The Best of Crow”.

Vinyl rips of the 1st and 2nd Lps of Crow in one cd .

Crow was formed in 1967 by singer David Wagner, guitarist Dick Wiegand, bassist Larry Wiegand, keyboardist Kink Middlemist, and drummer Harry Nehls under the name South 40, which was used until the group went national. Nehls was replaced by Denny Craswell at that time. Columbia Records brought them in to record a demo in 1969; they passed, and Crow was signed to Amaret.

In 1969, Crow’s debut album Crow Music was recorded. The single "Evil Woman (Don’t Play Your Games With Me)" made the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100that fall, peaking at #19. Crow by Crow and Mosaic were the follow-up releases in 1970 and 1971 respectively. Singles released off Crow's later albums were not as successful; the band wanted to move to Elektra Records, but Amaret would not release them from their recording contract while retaining their name. Wagner left the group in 1971; the band replaced him with Mick Stanhope and attempted to move forward, but collapsed for good in 1972. David Wagner recorded a solo album for Amaret in late 1972 titled: d/b/a Crow.

They disbanded in 1972, but reformed again in 1980. This version of Crow included original lead vocalist David Wagner, John Richardson and Jeff Christensen on lead guitar/vocals, Denny Johnson on bass and Bobby Belleville on drums. From September 1980 to July 1981, they recorded many sessions, which resulted in a new studio album titled Crow on the Run in 1982. This version of Crow disbanded in early 1982. In 1988, Crow reformed and they continue to play concerts all over the United States and have released numerous albums. All the members have won Minnesota Music Awards for their own individual instruments. In 2005, they were inducted into the Minnesota Rock/Country Hall of Fame and, in 2009, the Iowa Rock & Roll Music Hall of Fame.

Crow still play occasionally in the Midwest with Dave Wagner on vocals.

Named after the 19th Century mariner and novelist, this Glaswegian band made just one privately-pressed LP. Its back cover announces that ‘Captain Marryat is a Scottish band, and have been playing together for just under a year. They already have a sizeable following in the pubs n’ clubs circuit and this, their first LP, is a sample of the music that brought them success’. The line-up was Tommy Hendry (vocals, acoustic guitar), Ian McEleny (lead guitar, acoustic guitar), Allan Bryce (organ, vocals), Hugh Finnegan (bass, vocals) and Jimmy Rorrison (sic) (drums, vocals). They were originally intending to record a single, but the engineer at the Glasgow studio they’d booked told them that there was time enough to make a whole album. They therefore taped five tracks they’d already written (‘Blindness’, ‘It Happened To Me’, ‘A Friend’, ‘Songwriter’s Lament’ and ‘Changes’) and finished the LP with an improvised jam (‘Dance Of Thor’). The result came in a drab flipback sleeve, and according to one dealer is ‘a progressive rock rarity with psych flourishes – doom-laden organ plus acid guitar riffs and strong male vocals’. The 250 copies pressed were sold at gigs, and two that surfaced on eBay in late 2008 went for around £3000 each. (Galacticramble.com)

The Pretty Things were really two groups. 1. The studio band who used the facilities of Abbey Road to their ultimate and produced crafted recordings the equal of The Beatles. 2. The live band who shed many of the niceties in favour of dynamics and a heavier, rockier sound.

This excellent value double CD (each one is 79 minutes long) highlights much of the bands BBC session work which extended from 1964 through to 1973. Many of the songs underwent changes during the course of numerous gigs and these changes were usually for the better. The inclusion of guitarist Peter Tolson on the Parachute material also served to kick the songs onto a different harder hitting plain and also served to illustrate his wonderful and much missed guitar virtuosity.

Repertoire's packaging and Mike Stax's sleeve notesd is first rate. The only grouse being the missed opportunity to hear a number of songs that were never recorded and survive still in the BBC vaults. (By Alan Lakey )

Here you can hear the Mistress at their best and listen to some songs like Prayers or Jungle Love that Douglass used to play with the Raven and Steve Miller...
